The Orchard Court site is in a great location close to many amenities that residents would expect such as shops, recreation and public transport.
SCC has applied the design principles for sustainable Extra Care Housing with a view to providing around 53 new homes on this site. All of the homes will be accessible, with some apartments specifically designed to be adaptable for wheelchair users.

SCC have established the parameters of the design and are proposing to provide 51 one and 2 two bedroom Extra Care homes on this site. All of the homes will be accessible, with some specifically designed for wheelchair users.
The accommodation has been designed around the constrains of the site and its neighbours but is still able to offer residents ready access to safe external space including gardens landscaped specifically to address the needs of older people encouraging activity and promoting exercise, healthy living and wellbeing.
The detailed design will focus on ensuring residents have sufficient space, both private and communal, and key to this have been considerations around accessibility.

Landscape
The landscape proposals for Orchard Court are still evolving but we have established the principles. The proposed design maximises existing features on the site to provide privacy and security and adds high-quality planting to create a safe and welcoming environment for both residents and staff.
Access and parking
The proposals will retain the current access arrangements for the Care Home and include 24 car parking spaces, electric car charging capability and secure cycle storage on site.

The plans are currently at an early stage, and we welcome comments and suggestions.
